Domiciliary Care

What is domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care is having one of our friendly, enthusiastic and vibrant carers visit the client at their home address on a 'drop in' basis. They will call in at a time of the client's choice to carry out prearranged tasks. This might be just a half an hour visit once a week or four hour long visits per day. Domiciliary care is truly flexible and enables individuals to remain independent. Continuity is very importance to us so we make every effort to ensure that a few select carers will be allocated to each client giving them time to get to know each other and form a bond.

Who is domiciliary care for?
Domiciliary care is suitable for those who need assistance with specific parts of their daily routine or household chores, people who wish to remain independent in their own homes and do not need someone with them all the time. It is also suitable for those who have a regular carer who needs break cover and those who need companionship and support.

Domiciliary care might also be a 'sit in service' or a 'waking' or 'sleeping night'.

Sit in services are generally a large block of time between two and five hours where a carer is needed to be present in the house. This could be to allow a private/unpaid carer to take a break or attend appointments. It may also be a social visit where the client and the carer talk, laugh play games or look through old photographs together.

Waking nights are when a carer would stay in the house overnight but would stay awake to watch over the client. This type of care is most commonly requested for terminally ill clients who do not wish to be left alone or clients who are recovering from major surgery or a severe illness.

Sleeping nights are when a carer would go and stay with the client overnight and would sleep but be listening out for the client should they need assistance. This is appropriate for those who have mobility issues and need support with continence care during the night. Also those with memory problems with a tendency to wander or attempt to leave the house late at night.

Where can we provide this service? We can provide domiciliary care in Warminster, Westbury, Frome and the surrounding villages.

Live in care

What is live in care?
Live in care means having a specially selected Live in carer go to stay with the client. The carer would live with the client in their own home and would be on hand to support them at all times (except for a 2.5 hour daily break). The carer stays in the client's spare room as if they were part of the family. They aim to slot into the household and daily routine without disrupting the client or the lifestyle which they usually enjoy. This might be for a respite period of a week or two, or it may be a more permanent arrangement. If the client wishes to receive full time live in care then Castle Care Wessex Ltd aims to place two live in carers who will be placed on a rota basis to ensure continuity of care.

Who might receive live in care?
Live in care is suitable for those with a variety of needs. From those in need of a companion to those with major mobility issues, those who are bedbound or housebound. It may also be appropriate for those who cannot perform household chores and who need assistance to attend leisure activities. Live in care has also proven excellent for clients with dementia. Castle Care Wessex Ltd would always recommend that those who are considering a nursing or residential home first consider the possibility of a live in carer.
